Capitol Macintosh (CapMac) is a nonprofit, non-partisan, organization founded in July of 1993 by Austin Macintosh professionals and enthusiasts to help fellow Mac users get more enjoyment and productivity from their Macintosh computers. In keeping with this goal, the CapMac Board of Directors has identified public school teachers as a primary target for free training and help so they can better utilize the Macintosh equipment available in their classrooms. We have joined the AISD Partners-in-Education program to help in this endeavor. Additionally, we have reduced rates for membership in CapMac for educators and students. CapMac volunteers can be available to assist any AISD teacher by contacting one of the coordinators listed below. Beginning in the Spring semester of 2004, CapMac volunteers worked at Allan Elementary School in East Austin. AISD Instructor Carl Hooker teaches a computer skills class to parents, enabling them to help their children with schoolwork or better prepare themselves for the job market. We have also worked with teachers at Barton Hills Elementary School and O'Henry Middle School with a variety of projects.
