September 2020 General Meeting on Zoom
Summary
The September General Meeting was held at 7 PM on Tuesday, September 8. The program was by Fawzi Behmann.
The title of his talk was "5G is here – What do we expect to be different?" - The Fifth Wireless Communications technology 5G was ushered in early 2020. Similarly to the introduction of the iPhone, 5G will be disruptive with a rich set of technical capabilities that will impact network response, empowering vertical markets, and enriching mobility.
In this talk provided a high-level overview about 5G technology with an attempt to address and answer the following points:
- What is 5G and what is different compared to what we have today?
- Who is driving 5G worldwide, and here in the US and where are we in terms of the market rollout?
- What would be the early application/services (use cases) that we can see this and next year?
- What are the potential set of applications & services in the next 5-7 years?
- How long will 5G last? Do expect other future generation cellular rollout?
- What is the impact of COVID-19?
- Is 5G is a health hazard?
Fawzi is a visionary, thought leader, author, and contributor in advancing the adoption of technology in serving humanity. He has over 35 years of professional and leadership experience in the communications and networking areas in product development, marketing, and services at Freescale, Nortel Networks, and Teleglobe. He was the chief architect in building national telecom network management and participated in the development of ITU TMN M.3000. In 2009, Fawzi founded TelNet Management Consulting Inc. offering consulting services in the areas of disruptive technology positioning (5G, IoT, AI) and implementation of smart solutions development.
Fawzi is a senior member of IEEE, Distinguished Lecturer and IEEE ComSoc Regional Director for North America Board (2020-2021), chair for WCNC 2022, and chair of several society chapters (ComSoc, Signal Processing, Computer, EMB, Cons Elec.). Prior, Fawzi was IEEE Region 5 Conference committee chair and Central Texas Section chair (2018-2019). Fawzi organized several international conferences, summits/workshops, and panel sessions. This included: Smart City Summit (2019), Blockchain for Healthcare (2018), and Greentech of Smart Cities (2018) and Advanced technologies in Healthcare (2017) and co-chairs several tracks at Globecom, ICC, WFIoT, Himss, BHI, WF5G, and others. Fawzi has been keynote speakers at international conferences and has several publications and co-authored book on "Collaborative Internet of Things for Future Smart Connected Life and Business" published by Wiley.
Fawzi was the recipient of several Industry and IEEE Awards. He holds a Bachelor of Science with honors and distinction; Masters in Computer Science and Executive MBA.
